Welcome to the Motoryacht Dorothea web site!

Dorothea was a custom-built wooden motor yacht launched in 1967 at Vic Franck’s Boat Co. in Seattle, Washington. She was designed by William Garden, one of the Northwest’s most prestigious yacht designers. Dorothea cruised around the world logging more than 150,000 miles in her last 15 years. She proved to be extremely seaworthy, a capable passage maker, and a fine cruising yacht for her owner during this time.

Unfortunately, tragedy struck Dorothea at sea in October of 2007. Approximately 220 miles off the coasst of Costa Rica, a fire broke out that engulfed the entire vessel. All hands were rescued, but the vessel burned out of control and sank in deep water. The full story is here: megayachtnews.com/Archives/Dec.-2007/2116.html

In 2005, Captain John Crupi brought Dorothea back to her birthplace for a major refit. This 15 month project included the removal and replacement of 6 fuel tanks, a rebuild of her original 353 CAT engines, a 100% electrical and plumbing redesign and install, state of the art electronic upgrades, new interior configuration and design, and complete exterior paint and varnish. This was a huge project and we felt we had the highest quality contractors and companies in the Northwest involved in this amazing undertaking, which is documented in this website.
